here are my takes from the discussion group:

OK..the first week of the finals turned out to be pretty good. In fact, after the first 7 singers I thought it was possibly the best final group ever until it started fading a bit. Still, it's got the makings of a great year. Here is how I would rank the performers:

1. Danny. It was Michael Jackson night and he sang PYT..Pretty Young Thing. I was curious if he could sing an uptempo number and he nailed it. He may dance a little quirky but he's himself. Props for saying he usually sings in Church afterwords and has to get the dancing down pat. Grade..A

2. Allison...Give Into Me. She might be the best female rocker ever on the show..a natural and raw talent. Grade..A-

3. Lil...She opened the night strong with "The Way You Make Me Feel." For someone who has just sung in her church she is quite the natural as well. Her husband and kids seem like a real nice family too. Grade..A-

4. Michael Sarver...surprise! I thought his silky smooth "You are Not alone" was really heartfelt. Grade..B+

5. Kris...could this be the best looking husband and wife ever on the show? brings a little variety with his guitar in "Remember The Time." Props for helping the other contestants with their Michael Jackson songs too. Grade..B+

6. Adam..The judges love his "Black and White" but I think he's way over the top. Grade..B

7. Matt...his piano was drowned out by the band and I wasn't wowed by his vocals in Human Nature. Glad the judges liked it beter than I. Grade..B

8. Scott..not the best vocals but his not very known song "Keep the Faith" suited him like a tee. grade.B

9. Jasmine..nice safe version of "I'll Be There."..grade B-

10. Alexis..Her performance of Dirty Diana made this show PG-13. Glad the kids were asleep! grade..B-

11. Anoop..His "Beat It' didn't show off his voice at all. Grade..C

12. Megan...Rockin Robin was just stupid..grade C-..looks..A that will get her through to the next round.

13. Jorge...sang "Never Can say Goodbye" ..but we will after tomorrow.

so who gets sent home? I will have my official picks tomorrow. Jorge should be one but the next two worst performances are from popular people that should get lots of votes thinking they are not safe. this puts in danger middle of the road performances that were better but won't inspire votes like Jasmine, Michael and Matt.

Remember, if you are playing the contest 2 people get voted off. Predict by 8 tomorrow eastern time.

(For Stephanie, Dion and Steve..right now Fun idol pools is not letting me get through..so if is happening to you lets hope they fix it by tomorrow!)

I mostly agree with your takes, Jim. Danny was the highlight for us. He went a whole other direction with that up tempo song and proved he could also sing that style better than anybody else. The odds of anyone knocking him off this year are very low.

But will Adam be the David Cook of 2009 and knock off the early favorite? Will the Rocker take down the Nice Boy? I really don’t think so. Unless Adam shows us he can make us cry as well as make us shout he’s destined for elimination well before the finale. I’m dropping him to fourth in my rankings.
Allison also needs to prove she has a gear other than overdrive. I love her confidence, and her raw teenage-ness is fascinating. I liked it when Paula tried to get her to stop talking about darkness and how she;’s not a cutter or anything. She’s for real, but that’s a little too much reality for this show.
In terms of Idol history, she hasn’t made us forget Gina yet. What ever happened to Gina? We loved her. A quick check of Wikipedia shows that after her duet with Phil Stacey during an Illinois show of the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2007, Gina's boyfriend of three years, Joe, appeared on stage and surprised her by proposing to her. They were married last year. She is currently working on original material. One song 'When It Rains" has been performed on American Idol Extra.
Matt, Lil, Michael and Kris I group together. They’re all like-able, talented and will be with us for a while. I haven’t decided which of the three guys I like best. I love the tone of Michael’s voice, I love the performance skills of Matt, and Kris has the whole package. I love his spirit.

Rhonda really loves Megan. She voted for her, because she thinks she needs help. She’s been backed by the Vote for the Worst folks this week. She will probably make it through, but it’s not her looks, it’s her personality.

Scott is not going anywhere for a while. So that leaves Jasmine, Alexis, Jorge and Anoop.

Here’s my final predictions for the year:

Danny
Kris
Lil
Adam
Matt
Allison
Scott
Michael
Megan
Jasmine
Anoop
Jorge
Alexis

Megan, Jorge and Alexis are your bottom three tonight. Jorge and Alexis go home.

Jim, Fun Office Pools still has us predicting only one elimination this week… I’m not sure if it’s worth proceeding with that one.

I watched it tonight. I liked the performances from the guys more than the girls tonight. I thought the girls didn't have very good perfomances. Allison and Lil were probably the best performances from the girls. I would also say I loved the performances from Scott, Adam, Matt, and Danny. My prediction would be Jorge and Jasmine would be the ones you wouldn't make it onto the next round. I will be missing the results show tomarrow but I am sad I will miss a performance from Kelly Clarkson but I'm not at all sad about missing the performance from Kayne West. I will check out your blog tomarrow to find out what happens.
