"Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift" 2 Corinthians 9:15
Joy to the World
The spirit of Christmas is pervading our homes. Christmas carolers sing joyously "Joy to the world" standing outside out doors. We are busy preparing for the holyday season. One should not miss the real meaning of Christmas. The precise meaning is very simple and clear: God appeared in flesh in human form.
The Impact of His Birth
The greater than any miracle known to earth was that people began to walk in newness of life. The calendars were torn up, the pride and prejudices were kept aside and the peace of God began to rule in our hearts. Nearly 2000 years ago the angel of God revealed to the wondering and trembling Shepherds the glorious news, "That there was born that day, in the city of David a savior, which is Christ the Lord". The angel of the Lord already announced to Joseph, "You shall call His name Jesus: for He shall save his people from their sins.
Prophecy Fulfilled
The people of Israel looked for the one who would deliver them from their bondage. They enjoyed freedom in the days of King David. Gone were those days! They longed for the one who could restore their nation to the former glory. They could not have even dreamed that a little baby called Jesus would be crowned as the king of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Only the aged Simeon could see the spiritual significance of Christ's birth. He looked forward with hope to see the King of Kings. He beheld the future glory of Israel through this baby. What did he say? He declared, "A light to lighten the gentiles and the glory of God's people" (Luke 2: 32) 'This little babe in Bethlehem's manger delighted him. He delights us too, Doesn't He?
Bone of our Bone and Flesh of our Flesh
For many centuries the children of God walked in the light of the law givers and prophets. What was prophesied by Isaiah the prophet became flesh. The scripture says, "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us" (John 1: 14) He became bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh. What a glorious truth!
The Light of the World
The Christmas message is this: God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Him "It is because people were blind to their sins. They drank iniquity like water. They were thrown into the world without a role model. They walked in darkness. They needed a savior. What was spoken of this little babe? "People who sat in darkness have seen great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death the light has dawned."
His Mission
The world's great need of the hour is a Savior and the salvation from sin. Christmas emphasizes the glorious truth. We cannot save ourselves because we cannot deliver ourselves from the guilt, the power and the consequences of sin.
Jesus, the Indescribable Gift
Christmas tells why God sent His son Jesus to earth. "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have an eternal life. Eternal life is promised to every one. Jesus is the great Christmas gift to the world: "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift" 2 Corinthians 9:15
