What’s in a name? A lot for a band.
Coming up with that just right band name can be the easiest and hardest thing to do.
Let me give you the history of our name, Lessmyself, as an example.
Now, every musician has been in more bands than they are willing to admit.
Our bass player Coop and I have been playing together for 12 years and have been in a number of bands like:
- The Okmoniks
- The Wookies
- The Odderpops (we actually recorded a CD of punk versions of children’s Sunday school songs)
This band, Lessmyself, started off in 2004 as Remnant. In 2005 we changed it to Remnant Rock Show. In early 2006, after a couple of personnel changes and a renewed vision, we set out to find a new and lasting band name. We tossed around names like:
- Cat 5
- Hurricane Hunters
- Mutilators of the Flesh (this one seemed a bit too hardcore)
Finally, with much thought and prayer, we took the words of John 3:30 NIV “He must become greater; I must become less” and we modified it into Lessmyself.
And that’s what we truly want people to see, less of us and more of God.
