Being different than everyone else, not giving into the pressure of your peers, going against the flow, going against the sinful nature of our inner man... This is what it means to be an anti-conformist. The book of Romans, chapter 12 in the New Testament tells us this...
From The Message:
1-2 So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

We need to put ourselves on the altar of God, offer ourselves as a living sacrifice unto the Lord. Everything we do we should do with a Christ-like conscience. Embracing the attitude of Christ in our daily lives. I struggle with this daily. It comes down to living in the spirit of God and being filled with his spirit that will transform your life. He gives us the power and strength in our lives to not conform to this world. To not go along with the crowd. To be different than our friends who want us to do things that go against the ways of God. It isn't easy to say no. Sometimes it seems impossible to say no to something that looks good, sounds good...but in saying no to those things, having the mind of Christ, you will experience joy in making the right decision. I've been laughed at, joked with, persecuted by others for taking a stand in what I believe, at times. In the end it is all worth it. Think of all that Jesus suffered in his life. He felt the same. He went into the desert of 40 days and while there was tempted by satan. He hasn't gone through anything that we haven't been through, or experienced. I grew up in the church and learned right from wrong. I didn't always do the right thing. I still blow it sometimes. I still struggle with things but I am striving to be what God wants me to be in him. We have to break free from our SELF and live as a sacrifice unto God. When you put yourself on the altar before God, do your best not to take yourself off of that altar, but give your life and heart to him and seek him, seek the Lord. Ask him to help you in your daily life. Read the Bible. If you have one you cannot understand, get one that you can understand. If you don't enjoy reading it, you probably won't read it. We need to renew our minds so that we do not conform to the world and its desires. Ask God for his help. He will not let you down.
