This was another great question.
Biblically speaking, I know that it has always been God's intention to take care of His ministers. In the old testament, the Levites, whom took care of the priestly duties, were supported by the other tribes. All of the prophets were taken care of (many times miraculously) and after the Roman money system was introduced to the Jews, even Jesus' ministry had a money bag. Furthermore, after Pentecost, the Apostles brought everyone together to share their money so that none would have need. I believe that even today ministers of the gospel deserve the same benefit.
In our society believers have a very difficult time finding good, high quality entertainment that reinforces the values and principles that we hold dear. As a father of 9 children I am faced with this everyday. You can try to create a bubble around yourself and keep the world out but you will fail.
So in order to give my kids and the millions of other Christians out there, wholesome entertainment to fill their homes with, we need to do a better job of supporting creative Christian entertainers (who are also ministers). This could be Christian comedians, drama teams, video productions or, of course, musicians.
How do we do that?
#1. As much as we possibly can, we need to keep the secular world out of our pockets. We do this by supporting our own. Pick up any 10 Christian cds that you own and look on the back, at who the record label is. Now do a little internet research and find out who else the record label is recording and marketing. Most likely 9 out 10 of your cds will be produced by the same companies that produce some of the nastiest trash you have ever heard. Now granted you have to know who the parent company is first, and then start to research all of the minor labels that they own. Remember that they do not want it to be easy for you to know this information because you may stop purchasing.
#2. We need to stop expecting something for nothing! Our society has trapped Christians and turned them into beggars. The entire institution of 501c3 (non-profit organizations) for Christian ministries is a farce and most Christians are extremely confused on the subject. By law, any entity (including ministries) that sells a product for a specific price (ie. a music cd) can NOT be a not-for-profit organization. Therefore, ALL Christian musicians have to pay taxes on the sales of their products, even though they are a "ministry". But this is extremely contradictory to the "system" because almost every radio station that plays a Christian song is set up as a non-profit and pays 1/4 of the royalty payments. No wonder so many ministries fall under the enormous weight of the financial pressures. IF WE WANT MORE GREAT CHRISTIAN MUSIC WE NEED TO BE WILLING TO PAY FOR IT! Furthermore, this supports why record labels take the money that you spent on a Christian cd and reinvest it into promoting a secular artist BECAUSE THEY CAN MAKE 4 TIMES MORE MONEY!
#3. One way or another, ministries need to share their message. They can use a secular communication medium (like a record label) or they can use a Christian one. Crimson Pulse offers a Christian option. Owned by Christians and supported by Christians.
Hopefully, I have answered your question and if you feel confident that we are acting biblically then I would encourage you to visit www.crimsonpulse.com/pulse and read the Harvester Program information.
