True Love Waits

True Love Waits® challenges teenagers and college students to make a commitment to sexual abstinence until marriage. For the past month at ASBC, our middle and high school students have been learning about purity, what it means, and how it affects their relationships. Our study ended last week with over 200 students signing the True Love Waits pledge and here are a few photos from our ceremony at church this morning.

Too Good Not To Share...

I don't know how long this has been going on, but I just found out about it today. For any of you who remember Don Francisco or who who are fans, you are probably aware that he now runs Rocky Mountain Ministries out of his home in Colorado. But what you might not know is that he has launched an Internet Radio Station that plays his music 24/7/365! See the announcement below: RM Radio now on iPhone, iPod Touch, and other smartphones! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In case you… Continue

Super Bowl Commercials - Not So Super...

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this was the weakest year in Super Bowl history for commercials. I don't think I'll remember any of them by 1000 tomorrow morning. And Coke Zero's remake of teh Mean Joe commercial using Polamaro was very poorly done and humorless. The best commercial this year was probably Budweiser's Clydesdale fetching the tree limb to show up the dog for a treat - and even that was pretty weak. I'm no "Jimmy the Greek" but my prediction is there won't be a whole lot o… Continue

What's All The Fuss About?

I'm glad you asked! Believe it or not, NBC has decided not to air a pro-life commercial sponsored by Catholicvote.org during this year's Super Bowl. I don't know a lot about the organization, but I have read that NBC originally agreed to accept the commercial, but later changed their minds and rejected it. The only reason given was that NBC was not going to air "activist" advertisement during this year's Super Bowl. Although I'm sure they will air all those other commercials that demand we chang… Continue

Curbside Parking

Is it just me or are there more and more cars on the side of the road these days? I live in a neighborhood somewhat removed from the hustle and bustle of the big, busy Chesapeake city life - kind of out of the way. But the neighborhood is a decent size - about 215 houses with a common area park, a clubhouse, and an olympic-sized community pool. So even though we're sort of "out of the way", we're not South Georgia country! Every home in our neighbood has a garage, most have 2 car garages. Every… Continue

The Plot Thickens...

A few days ago President Obama signed an executive order to allow federal taxpayer dollars to be used to support abortion. Now House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, is trying to get us to believe that having fewer children will build a stronger American economy? I wonder how long it will be before America adopts the One Child Law that has plagued China for years? I have a gut feeling that this is going to be a long 4 years... ------------------------------------------------------- Pelosi: Fewer babies… Continue

How Do You Spell Disappointment?

Around here, we're spelling it N-O-S-N-O-W! Early this morning before the sun had a chance to rise every public and private school in Tidewater was listed as closed in anticipation of 6" of snow that every meteorologist in this area predicted to hit hard and heavy and all day long. When I woke up at 5AM, there was no snow. When I left for work at 6AM, still no snow. When I looked out the window at 8:30AM, not a flake to be found. By lunch time, we had all given up. Another elaborate hoax schemed… Continue

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas...

Oh, wait. Christmas has already passed. And it was GREEN, as usual. But the forecast is calling for some white stuff to begin falling tonight and all day tomorrow. In fact, they are saying anywhere from 1" - 6". I know - for allot of my friends here on myCCM that is an everyday forecast and you wouldn't blink an eye. But 1" in Chesapeake sets everyone a bit on edge and 6" would be some serious, serious stuff. Maybe I'll be watching the Inauguration from home? Here's a photo from our last "Big S… Continue

New Year's Eve All-Nighter

I think I have finally recovered from spending New Year's Eve with just over 100 of my favorite middle schoolers. Our Youth Ministry used to plan a pretty big night in the past. We''ve had concerts by Big Daddy Weave and Solomon's Wish and guest speakers like Ted Dibiase and Sting followed by a full night of roller skating, ice skating, and bowling to name a few. And we'd invite other area churches But the last few years we've been pretty quiet. This year we shared the evening with another area… Continue

Top 10 Albums of 2008

Everyone seems to be making lists this time of year. Christmas lists, New Years Resolutions, Naughty and Nice, you name it - someone is making a list and checking it twice. So, remaining in the tradition, here is my Top 10 Albums (CDs) list for 2008: 10. Great God Who Saves (Laura Story): My daughter had the privilege of attending a dinner in which Laura was the guest speaker and I attended the after dinner concert with her. Even if the girl couldn't write a lick or sing a note (which I assure… Continue

For Parents of Small (and not so small) Children

Many of you are probably already aware but I wanted to pass along a pretty cool website for tracking Santa across the world. NORAD is the bi-national US/Canadian military organization officially created in 1958 and responsible for providing advanced warning of missile attacks against North America. They operate a variety of radars that monitor the airspace within Canada and the United States as well as conducting maritime monitoring. NORAD began tracking Santa on Dec 24, 1955 after a child dial… Continue

RELIENT K REMINDER (For Jimbo)

Tonight is the night RELIENT K will be performing "Sleigh Ride" on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. It's a bit late for the middle of the week but would be a great statement if the ratings go up when Christians are showcased on the show. Hope you can make it - I'm going to give it my best shot!
