Virginia Hill
Singer/Songwriter

Chicago-based pop rock singer Virginia Hill knows first-hand the importance of God’s timing. Growing up as the youngest of a musically prominent family, (mom Judy Buffum and sister Tammy Trent are both successful recording artists) Virginia’s musical gifts blossomed quietly in the background, revealed only through her church choir and school musical productions during her younger years.

Marriage to her best friend Ken brought her to the Chicago area, where family was the focus for the next two decades, until sons Kenny and Kyle hit the less-dependent teen years. Virginia was active in her church worship ministry but it wasn’t until the self-taught guitarist and naturally expressive singer/songwriter did a demo of her original music that she caught the ear of a Nashville producer. Finally it seemed like doors of opportunity might be opening for the vivacious, captivating artist who had waited patiently for God’s timing.

Virginia’s ear for pop culture, a vital tool in today’s ministry scene, greatly informed the ten self-penned tracks of her debut album, LOL. Released independently in the spring of 2007, the well-received project scored twice on the indie Top Ten CRW Global AC charts, with the pulsating “I Want To Be Like You” reaching #7, and “I Believe” soaring to #4. Hill’s musical appeal lies in her boldly personal songs, delivered with a heartfelt fervency that reaches across the generation gap at every turn. “I’m an adapter,” she laughs. “I’m comfortable in any setting, and can minister to any group.” This buoyant faith-driven confidence makes her a triple threat on tour, where she shares engagingly at events geared to women, youth, families, schools, or larger venues like the Muskegon 2007 Christian Unity Festival in Michigan, where Hill performed before 10,000 fans. Sharing generously from a wealth of life experiences discovered in the Lord’s waiting room, Virginia speaks as well as she sings and plays, and her encouraging message of hope seems to strike a chord with every audience.

Virginia’s sophomore album promises to hold out more of the same. The aptly-titled Truth & Love, available through iTunes in February and releasing nationally in September 2009, overflows with the same professionalism and signature positivity that made LOL such a significant recording. The accessible artist has once again turned her keen eye to the cultural horizon. Entertaining yet incisive pop track “I’m Just Saying” parodies our tendency toward casual offensiveness, written after viewing an Oprah broadcast. “That’s why the record is so important,” she explains passionately. “Right now we really need to stand on the very foundation of God’s truth and love.” Hill’s self-penned anthems once again brim over with thoughtful truth and Biblical values, powerfully articulate on the nuanced, textured “Every Single Thing” and worshipful ballad, “I Am Here.”

Virginia Hill has waited on the Lord for His moment. Years of sitting quietly before Him, guitar in hand and an open Bible at her feet, all come to beautiful fruition now in her sensitive ministry to all ages. Virginia Hill is ready to serve, to be His instrument, for such a time as this.

New video in the works!

February 16, 2009

Wow! This has been an exciting month. What seemed to be a bit of a lull in my schedule turned into a “rocket” of activity. With the hard copies of my new CD (Truth and Love) done, we were urged to put together a music video of my first radio single (I Am Here). My manager and husband, ken, met with different producers and found that it was going to take at least 4 to 5 months from start to finish. Not having that much time to spare, He came up with what I believe to be a brill… Continue

We need each other in 2009!

We need each other in 2009!

Life’s lesson:

We face tough economic times and it seems many people are lacking hope. It is in these hard times that we need each other the most! It could be as simple as providing a meal, listening to someone “vent” or most importantly taking the time to pray for one another. Recently, I have had the honor of ministering with my Mom, Judy Buffum-Hemmila, and one of the many things I have observed is how often she will stop and take time to pray with people immedia… Continue
