Laura Hawthorne knew at the very young age of 5 years old that she wanted to become a professional singer. Originally from Wilmington, Delaware, Laura spent her elementary years singing in school plays, carnivals, local tv shows, talent contests and many other events. But she always felt best when she sang in church. When she was 16 years old, Laura gave her heart to the Lord during a crusade. She kept a bible in her car on the dashboard but never really opened it. Following high school she went to college in Maryland and earned her AA Degree in Dental Hygiene, and immediately moved to New York City hoping to become a famous recording artist. For 11 years she worked in Manhattan pursuing a recording career. She experienced what the big city had to offer struggling artists and Miss Hawthorne grew tremendously as a vocalist. One of her greatest accomplishments was singing the national anthem for the New York Mets for 10 years. However, her life during that time was a roller coaster ride of emotions, accomplishments, disappointments and hardships. For some reason, doors just weren’t opening in the music business the way she had hoped. Obsessed with worldly fame and fortune, Laura continued her pursuit and found that her controlling nature always got in the way of her spiritual growth. She had many unhealthy personal relationships that acted as wedges between her and her relationship with God. Attending a few different churches, she attempted to get herself grounded. The plan failed each time. Throughout the years, she struggled with serving the Lord while on her own self serving path.
As she was releasing her first full length CD in 2000, Laura’s younger brother, Jay, fell and broke his neck at the C2 level during a terrible construction accident. This left him a ventilator dependent quadriplegic. Life changed in an instant. She immediately dropped her singing career and spent time by her brother’s bedside as he endured tremendous pain and suffering. This is what made her realize that life is not about seeking worldly fame at all. After years of fighting with herself and refusing to surrender, she realized the Lord was calling her into ministry.
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
Today, Jay is Laura’s personal hero. He is her inspiration to sing and lead others to Christ.
Life for Laura can be summarized in her own words:
“I see God’s purpose in my life more clearly than ever now. I realize that doors closed for a reason. God’s perfect plan has come full circle. He wanted me to go in His direction, not mine.
Living a holy life and serving Him with the gifts He has given me is my focus. He has brought so much healing and restoration to my life. I have found a peace within myself that I never knew before. My spiritual growth has been incredible, and I know it's due to my willingness to be obedient and disciplined. I am to sing for the Lord and tell my story so others can benefit from the mistakes I’ve made. I have been called to EMPOWER and ENCOURAGE others who need hope and healing in their lives.”
Through her music ministry, “Livin’ In His Love Ministries”, Laura currently serves as a praise & worship leader, speaker, and soloist in churches, revivals, women’s meetings, conferences and many other functions.
