Kutless changed their name to Kutless in 2001. Prior to that, what name was the band known by?

Back when the guys were in college they named their campus worship band "Call Box".

Now...my follow-up questions...so this trivia thread doesn't die out too quickly.

Does anyone know the significance of the name "Call Box" and why the band was so named? (Jimbo...do you recall me telling you this story?...if so...jump in with an answer :)

Also...what was it that caused the guys to give up the name "Call Box"?

Ok the answer was Call Box which I didn't know till 2ntech posted about it

I'm not sure "why" Call Box but I'd guess it has something to do with a callbox being a direct telephone line for emergency help. I know the name Kutless is taken from Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death... Christ took our "cuts" on the cross, leaving us Kutless.

Craig...you are right on with your interpretation of the name "Call Box" :) and about the origins of the new name Kutless.

Call Box doesn't seem like a very good name for a band. I love Kutless for a band name as it is a very good band name.

Actually....the guys found out that they could not use the name "Call Box" so had to change their name. There was already a band using that name. Since you don't feel it's a good name for them...I'll bet you are happy with that little piece of trivia :)

I agree...I like the name "Kutless" better and the verse that they have based their name on much better than the "direct prayer line" idea of the previous name for their college worship band.

More Trivia - this has happened to several other CCM bands. For instance, FFH was originally Far From Home and PFR was originally Pray for Rain until it was discovered another band already had dibs on the names. I'd say the new names didn't hurt either band. I love them both - and it obviously is working for Kutless as well!
