I love mosh pits.......when the concert is going on. At Creation East this past year, I was in the mosh pit to see Hawk Nelson. When the concert was going on, I forgot how claustophobic I am. I loved it. As soon as they got done and I tried to find the rest of my group and go back to my seat.......it hit me. That place was packed! I was sweating and could barely breathe....and on top of it all i'm shorter than most people. I'm only 5ft tall. We finally got out and I was fine. I'm never going to learn my lesson though. Next concert.....I'll be in the mosh pit!!!! HAHA!
I think I'm probably just a couple of years older than Jim! I love to see artists out in the crowd, maybe even a little body surfing, but I really don't "get" moshing. Moshing with 1 guy at a time after a TD in the NFL is one thing. But moshing among the masses is an injury just waiting to happen...expecially at Jimbo's age! I know - it's all fun until somebody loses an eye....
OK - so maybe I'm really older than I look (as if that's possible). What Emily is describing is what I would just consider being "on the floor" or "center stage" at a concert. When I think "mosh pit", I think bodies bouncing off each other (and usually with considerable force), not jumping straight up and down or taking photos. Who has the "Webster" accepted definition of mosh pit?
I stay away from mosh pits as I don't like being people going all crazy in those mosh pits doing all of those things. I'd rather stay in my seat or where I am standing to enjoy the concert.
