Acts 19:32 (NIV)
The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people did not even know why they were there.
Reading today's verse I almost have to crack up. You see a few guys had got some people in an uproar, because their business of making and selling false gods was in danger, since so many were turning to Jesus.
Acts 19:26-27 26 "Moreover you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods which are made with hands. 27 "So not only is this trade of ours in danger of falling into disrepute, but also the temple of the great goddess Diana may be despised and her magnificence destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship."
So with this uproar they started to shout out Now when they heard this, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying, "Great is Diana of the Ephesians!" Acts 19:28
And since a few guys started this shouting this the whole city was filled with confusion, and rushed into the theater with one accord, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, Paul's travel companions. Acts 19:29b
And moving on we get to today's devotional verse.
The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people did not even know why they were there.
It makes me think of today and how just a few people will start to say something and soon everyone is on board with it, not even looking into it to see if what they are supporting is right or not.
So we end up with bills and voting and assemblies with just a few people really know what's going on, but hundreds and even thousands supporting them without even questioning why or what they are supporting. (Prop 8 for example but there are so many more examples).
But that's the world, and should we be surprised? No
Some attack the bible and Christians for no other reason then because it's what their friends are doing. But they really have no solid reason for doing it.
But Christians will do the same thing, they get into holy laughter and gold dust appearing on their bodies, and barking like dogs and all sorts of things.
They will pray to a picture or a statue of what is supposed to be Jesus.
They will get into movies like Twilight, which is from the pit of hell that even our Christian kids are falling for (If you think the movie is ok, you are believing a lie from satan). It's up to us parents to point out why it's wrong. A love story between a young teenage girl and a demon (A vampire) and our young girls are all over this. But the world is into it so they fall for it, and Christians fall into so many ungodly things because their friends are.
So let me encourage you, whether young or old, no matter how much your best friend or the ratings, or even your family is into something. Check it out for yourself.
If you don't you can be like today's devotional verse: Most of the people did not even know why they were there.
Or better yet, let's be like this: These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Acts 17:11
