The only music that you can upload to our player is music to which you hold the copyright.

So you couldn't upload a song of TobyMac to our player.

Submerged could upload their music to our player.

I can upload my daughter's violin playing to the player.

Thanks for figuring that out. I guess I will have to figure out to add music that is already on the website some how since I can't upload songs from my computer.

Could I upload a video of Wavorly that I took? It's their song, but I took the video.
Then comes another question - why the 100 meg limit on videos?

Great questions Brent.

Depends on how you obtained the video. Many concerts have rules that prohibit video tapping the concert.

So if you broke the rules to produce the video it would be against the law for you to upload it.

The limits are set by the platform and I don't have the access to change those limits.
(I'm just excited that we can upload video now. And looking forward to seeing some member generated videos.)

Hey there friends,

Here's some information from RIAA:

"...If you make digital copies of copyrighted music on your computer available to anyone through the Internet without the permission of the copyright holder, you’re stealing..."

You can read more here:

Thanks Fred. I will track down the producers/promoters of the concert.
Any ideas on how to make the video smaller? It's almost 400meg.

Brent

Sorry, I sure don't. Would be a handy thing to know though.

Maybe someone from the beta group knows.

Hey Fred,

I'm really enjoying the new site. I had no trouble downloading my own video's. Doing the music is another matter though. I thought I could could transfer music from my windows media player or ITUNES but I couldn't, I read the other comments below so I can understand why now. It's allright to put those myplaylists things on though right? I see some people have done that, I just have to try to remember how I did it last time!..seya..Jim

From what I know I can't upload music from my computer since that isn't legal. I am still unsure about having a playlist of songs from this website called projectplaylist.com on my profile. I did ask Fred about it in the chat but he wasn't sure about it. Maybe he will know the next time he checks this topic.

Hey Everyone,

I just want to restate so everyone understand...

Here is what you CAN upload:

Music content that YOU have created.

1. Did you and your friends get together for a jam session that sounded pretty good? Yep, you can upload this and share it with the rest of us.

2. Are you an artist and want to extend your fan base by sharing your music in a rockin' awesome community? Yep, you can upload your work for the rest of us to listen to.

3. Are you a manager for an artist and trying to get your clients music spread out across the Web? Yep, upload away! We want to hear your artist's tunes.

What you can NOT upload:
Music which you do not own the rights to.

1. You love MercyMe and you've downloaded their music from iTunes. You've paid for it and you loving jamming to it on your pc and your iPod. You can not upload this music to our Website. You do not own the rights to the music and how it can be distributed publicly.

2. Your friend gave you some MP3s and you just love Tobymac's music. Your friend included some of Toby's music in the MP3s he gave you. You can not upload this music to our site. (In fact, technically, your friend and you are breaking the law.)

Hope that helps to clear stuff up.

SUMMARY
If you didn't create the music or if you are not the manager of the person who created the music then you can't upload it here.

Thanks for that Fred. That is just uploading music onto the website. This playlist.com thing is just a playlist of songs that are found on the internet some where and put into a playlist is that still legal or not?

I believe that is ok because you are using a service that is handling the licensing and royalties with the various labels.

Just a little "heads up" and I would be more than welcome to provide the links to the legal code for this but licensing and royalties are handled by Performance Rights Organizations like ASCAP, BMI and SESAC not record labels.

The people that own the rights are the writers NOT the performers. So if you perform (or record and broadcast) someone's song that belongs to one of these P.R.O.s you are liable for the royalty payments.

For example: you record a version of Jesus Freak and uploaded it. Jesus Freak is protected BMI and they would require that MyCCM pay their license fee to allow you to upload and play it.

This is a very serious issue and the RIAA is very strict. I would be happy to answer any other questions.
